Inside Line Promotions – RAPID CITY, S.D. (June 18, 2019) – Australian Scott Bogucki just swept a weekend of racing for the first time in his racing career in the United States.

Bogucki and his SawBlade.com sponsored team won both Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour events in South Dakota last weekend. His second straight solid week of racing moved him into third in the championship standings.

“We’ve swept a lot of weekends in Australia, but this is the first in the United States,” he said. “This is huge for our little team. Having my friend Jack (Mccarthy) over here has helped me tremendously. This has been a big financial strain on my family, but Jack and I have been together for a long time and he helps keep me focused and calm.”

The weekend started on Friday at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, where Bogucki admits the team struggled early as they finished fourth in a heat race.

“We really weren’t that good in the heat,” he said. “I didn’t feel quite right in the car. We changed three bars for the feature and figured we’d see what happens. We got rolling a lot better and picked off cars. The leader had an issue with a lapped car and I was there to take advantage. Brown County surprised me; it was a racy track.”

The next night at Black Hills Speedway a charge from fifth in his heat race to take the win put Bogucki on the front row for the feature.

“It was the first time I had laid eyes on Black Hills,” he said. “It was a lot bigger than I expected. The only thing we changed for the feature was stagger and a wheel spacer and it worked.”

Bogucki charged into the lead at the drop of the green, but a close call in traffic nearly cost him the race. He dove low in turns one and two to get around the driver with defending ASCS National tour champion Sam Hafertepe Jr. closing. Bogucki made contact while lapping the driver, who then got into Hafertepe Jr.

“I felt bad about that, but you can’t be timid in traffic if you want to win,” Bogucki said. “I hadn’t gone near the bottom the whole race and it was a lot slicker than I thought. We were fortunate we didn’t get any damage.

“Getting that second win was more stressful than the first one last year. When you go that long without a win you start to wonder if that first one was a fluke. Now we have the monkey off our back and have proved we can win consistently.”

The ASCS National Tour now heads west to Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash., for the 48th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup this Thursday through Saturday.

“We did very well out there last year,” Bogucki said. “I was the first Australian to sit on the pole for the Dirt Cup race and we finished second. Plus I love it out there. We get to play tourist for a few days and relax.”
