Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (July 20, 2014) – After an issue derailed a top five on Friday, Tony Bruce Jr. capped his weekend by earning a seventh-place result at Jackson Speedway on Saturday.

The up-and-down weekend began on Friday with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, S.D., where Bruce Jr. powered from fourth place into the lead on the opening lap of his heat race.

“We had a good start and that was a key to it,” he said. “When we came out of turn two I was in the lead. We were able to capitalize on the heat race win, but unfortunately we redrew eight.”

His result in the heat race sent Bruce Jr. into the feature redraw as the high-points driver. However, he pulled the highest number to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.

“The race track was one lane right around the bottom,” he said. “Then we had a right front hub bearing lock up and another DNF. I tried to go in the corner and it went straight right.”

Bruce Jr. was running fifth with a handful of laps remaining when his right front locked up. He was unable to finish the race and was credited with a 15th-place result.

The One 8 Motorsports team decided to head to Jackson Speedway on Saturday for a JSTS event.

“In the heat race we weren’t that good,” he said. “I had a bad start and wasn’t able to get going.”

Bruce Jr. finished where he started – fifth – in his heat race, which lined him up 13th for the main event following a couple of disqualifications to other drivers.

“We had a pretty good car,” he said. “The race track ended up taking a little bit of rubber. It made it hard to pass. We made the best of it.”

Bruce Jr. ended with a seventh-place finish, which was his 21st top 10 of the season.

He will return to action this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. It will mark his first time to the famed half-mile oval this season and his lone chance to compete prior to the 360 Knoxville Nationals July 31-Aug. 2.

“We know what we’re going with,” he said. “We have a motor and things on the car we want to do. We have a really good plan. We’re pretty much going out there the exact way we are going to 360 Nationals with. It’s a nice test to figure out if that’s where we want to be.”
