Shake Up Jacob – Back to the Track for the Ossenfort Racing Crew

NEWTON (May 19, 2011) – The team headed to the Black Hills Speedway for the May 6th event. It had been almost two weeks since Jacob had last been behind the wheel, so a heat race win started off the weekend with some excitement. The track itself was full of attitude too, bearing more of its rocky sediment lap after lap, causing damage to wings and all kinds of other parts on the cars that were there to conquer it. Unfortunately, as Jacob and his Knology #99J made their way in to the first corner of the feature, the track had already gotten a punch in. “I went into the first corner and when I tapped my brakes they went straight to the floor!” Jacob had to say. A rock had torn the left front brake line straight off the car. Thankfully the crew was able to add more fluid to the line and get Jacob through the remainder of the race. “I had to keep pumping the brakes for the rest of the race and although we finished third, I’m still convinced that we could have had something for first,” said Jacob.
On Sunday the team made their way to the Husets Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota, for their May 8th show. This would be Jacob’s first time back in the Knology #99J 410, since last season. “Hot laps were fun! It never ceases to amaze me how much power that engine has,” said Jacob. The #99J started fourth for the heat and brought home a fourth place finish, putting him on the pole for the evening’ s main event. The feature, however, ended unfavorably for Jacob and the rest of the team, as Jacob had been collected up in an accident before the race was finished. “I was so excited for the pole position, that I think the pressure and excitement of it all caught up to me. I got loose a few times and the last time it happened I just spun around and the ride started. It wasn’t fun, but I learned a lesson; I just need to calm myself down some and get in the zone,” Jacob said of the night’s finish.
Although the weekend ended tough, Jacob and the Ossenfort racing team were back at it again last weekend. Unfortunately, Saturday night’s Loren Barstad Memorial event at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, South Dakota was cancelled due to cold and wet conditions. It has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 21st.
The team made their way back to Husets Speedway in Brandon, South Dakota for another round on Sunday. Jacob and the Knology #99J made their way back on to the track for hot laps and learned that some changes were definitely needed before time trials began. “The car wasn’t handling at all. So, Dad changed a shock and we also decided to change gears. It was perfect!” Jacob said. The Knology #99J ran a 11.23 second lap time, a personal quick time at Husets for Jacob.
Jacob’s qualifying time landed him a fourth place starting position for the heat race. Although the car’s setup was still working for Jacob, the track was changing. “The track got a bit tacky and it had me racing even harder. I got to corner four on the last lap and all I was thinking was, “It’s now or never,” and I threw the car into the corner and just nailed the gas,” Jacob said. It seems to have worked for him, because he walked away with a fourth place finish.
Jacob started outside front row for the Sunday night main event and after the weekend before, he showed up a little more prepared. As he concentrated on being smooth and finishing the race, he also raced each car that tried to prove him otherwise, just a little harder. Jacob finished the night with a hard earned eleventh place. “It was a great race. It was a lot of fun. I challenged everyone who tried to get by me. I need the seat time and I only plan to get better with time.” A confident Jacob said of his feature.
The Ossenfort Racing team will call it a three day weekend this weekend, as they make their way to Rapid Speedway, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, Friday night; I-90 Speedway in Hartford, South Dakota, Saturday night; and back to Husets Speedway on Sunday. Be sure you get out to cheer on Jacob and the Knology #99J!

Vortex Racing Products
Vortex Racing Products is the industry leader in Sprintcar Wing design. From humble beginnings in 1995 where we began producing wings for our own use we quickly became engaged in producing wings for other race teams. Inspired by a life-long background in racecar design and manufacturing from our Dad, we (Paul and Lynton) continued to evolve into a company known for producing a product a little different from the rest. This ability to manufacture a Wing that is unique in design is what has been our success. With the use of our own race teams in Australia and America, we continually push the boundaries of design with an extensive testing program of our products each and every year. It is with our understanding of chassis design and manufacturing that we are able to communicate with our clients and tailor a wing package that best suits their driver, team and make of chassis. We call this,” The Vortex Advantage”. http://www.vortexracingproducts.com.au/
